Hobo with a Shotgun (2011)
A homeless vigilante blows away crooked cops, pedophile Santas, and other scumbags with his trusty pump-action shotgun.
Tremendously fun bloodbath with some heart!!! Decapitation, funny bad guys, punks, exploding heads, fun house of slaughter, bum fights, pedo-santa, cocaine hungry zombie teens, mysterious armored hit men, custom weapons, violent as hell and quotable to the last line.
TRIVIA: The Canadian release of Grindhouse (2007) had one extra trailer attached to the opening of the film. The trailer was called “Hobo With A Shotgun” and was the winner of the SXSW Grindhouse fake trailer competition. The short was directed by an indie film maker from Nova Scotia, Canada, named Jason Eisener.
Jason Eisener does an amazing job (grabbing opportunity by the balls and squeezing it) turning his “fake” trailer into a spinoff reality. He captured the 80s horror revenge street vibe, with the aid of timely wardrobe, props and cliche (hilarious) lines/dialogue. What i loved the most was the atmosphere created with saturated colors and the great editing. Felt authentic… this is exactly what i imagined the full length film to be!
Blood shed and one homeless man… who’s had enough. Bad boy Rutger Hauer is the grumpy/kind old bum with principles and guts. What a performance!!! Holt shit he was “perfect”. My favorite part was when he was making his “sign/placard”, it established how tragic his life had become despite being a smart individual. The time and world they lived in was a cruel one. Laving down a Charles Bronson 80s smackdown vigilance against evil doers, with a shotgun!
She just won’t die! Molly Dunsworth aids our hero in bringing justice to the streets. At first i was annoyed, but then she grows on you. The bad guys were AWESOME! from the sick and sadistic family to the mysterious masked “plague”, well played sirs… well played. The cops are bought and the civilians are sheep, not far from reality right? An exaggeration of how bad things can be if we don’t assert ourselves and stand up against abuse.
YES, this is a Grindhouse film. A throw back to merciless and brutal revenge flicks, done with modern day effects and prosthetic work. The story is a bit shallow and silly, but who the fuck cares?!?!? It’s an action revenge movie. Absolutely beautiful!
The title says it all…
“Maybe… you’ll end up like me. A hobo with a shotgun.”
